The dharma wheel represents the teaching of the Buddha. It is known as the Dharmachakra or the "wheel of transformation".
The three most significant parts of the wheel are as follows:
- Hub - The hub symbolizes self-discipline and spiritual training. This is the heart of meditation practice.
- Rim - The rim represents concentration or mindfulness. Like the rim, it is this practice which holds everything else together.
- Spokes - The eight spokes symbolize the Noble Eightfold Path. The edges of these spokes are sharp so as to cut through ignorance.
Meditation on this symbol can help keep us centered in our practice so that we may experience steady spiritual transformation.
